Why do we care? Why would we care for someone who we might never meet? These are questions Salvador Mungia, current parent and alumni parent, posed for us in the latest installment of our community gathering series. Sal spoke about doing things for other people because it feeds us spiritually. Regardless of what creed or set of beliefs one may adhere to, Sal maintains we all have a connection to something much greater. By doing service to others, we feed our souls. As we prepared to depart for winter break, it was a wonderful reminder that helping others - even those who may never be able acknowledge or show gratitude for that service - is spiritual food to sustain us through the holiday season and throughout life.
Finally, Sal shared a story about Mahatma Gandhi, who was asked why he does so much for others. He responded “I am serving no one but myself.” May our community go in peace and serve others in this new year!

Katie Greeley, LCSW, with Prevention Education Solutions, visited Annie Wright this week to share her story and inspire our community to be more caring!
As a part of our ongoing community gathering series, Katie shared her personal story of substance abuse & recovery. She discussed the power of having tough conversations, reminding us that even though it might be difficult, providing a safe space for loved ones to talk about their struggles can sometimes be a life-changing way to support those we care about. She also presented to our Grade 9 and 10 students about gender and sexuality, sharing risk and harm reduction tips, and reflecting on the process of coming out. See below for some resources Katie provided for students who may be searching for more information, community support, or assistance in their own journey of coming out.
